What our team is doing in Kasese, Uganda matters more than ever in the face of the emerging Ebola crisis.
Kasese borders the Democratic Republic of Congo, where Ebola poses a serious threat. The World Health Organization has confirmed that a mobile laboratory is being deployed to monitor and help test for cases in the region.
But long before Ebola threatened the Kasese District, Acts for Water was already helping communities prepare.
For nearly two years, our team has been working in vulnerable communities across Kasese District to install clean water taps, improve sanitation, and strengthen hygiene practices like handwashing and ending open defecation.
Today, that work is doing more than improve daily life, it is helping protect families from the spread of one of the world’s deadliest diseases.

Clean water is a critical line of defence.
Handwashing with soap can reduce the risk of deadly infectious diseases — including Ebola — by cutting transmission of the virus by up to 70% according to the World Health Organization.
Last year, a clean water system was completed for more than 18,000 people, including 9 schools and 3 healthcare clinics. Because of your support, these facilities now have reliable running water — essential for infection prevention and safe patient care.
And we are not stopping there.
In the coming weeks, our team expects to bring clean water access to another 16,881 people, including 9 additional schools and 3 more healthcare facilities.
At the same time, your support allows us to continue working with communities to strengthen hygiene practices that help stop the spread of disease, including regular handwashing and improved sanitation.
Clean water. Safe sanitation. Good hygiene.
In moments like this, these are not just humanitarian efforts — you are providing life-saving interventions against a contagious deadly disease.
We are deeply grateful for your support, which made this work possible before the crisis reached Kasese District. Today vulnerable communities are better prepared today to protect themselves.
Our team remains committed to safely completing this essential work while following all recommended health protocols.
